You Failed–That’s Awesome!!

What can you tell me you failed at today?  That’s awesome!  Is it possible to think of mistakes that way?

Mistakes are inevitable and are an important part of the learning process in life.

Unconfident people hang on to their mistakes versus learning from them and moving on.

Only those who have ceased to move forward never make a mistake.

Learn to reframe failure as something useful and important for the growth of your self-confidence and for your overall growth as a person.

Four New Ways to View Failure

  • See failure as a learning experience, not as something horrible. When standing in the middle of a failure, ask: What’s awesome about this situation? What can I learn from this situation?

  • You gain experiences you couldn’t get any other way. Sometimes you just have to fail on your own to learn a lesson and to gain an experience that no one can relate to you in mere words.

  • You become stronger. Every time you fail, you realize more that it’s not the end of the world. Failing means you at least took a chance. You didn’t just sit on your hands doing nothing, and that took quite a bit of courage and determination.

  • Your chances of succeeding increases. Every time you fail you can learn and increase your inner strength. So every failure can make you more and more likely to succeed.

“Would you like me to give you a formula for success? It’s quite simple,
really. Double your rate of failure. You are thinking of failure as the enemy
of success. But it isn’t at all. You can be discouraged by failure or you can
learn from it. So go ahead and make mistakes. Make all you can. Because
remember that’s where you will find success.”

Think You Know What I am Thinking?

Can you READ my mindIt’s a GAME we are always playing, but one that can get us in trouble.

Someone says or does something and we automatically interpret the meaning behind it.

“I knew she was mad at me because I didn’t “behave” the way she wanted me to.”

Did you really know that?  Or…did you just “mind read” the meaning of her actions and words?

We think the meaning and interpretation we give to the actions or words is accurate.  “We know what they mean and what they are trying to say.”

Frequently,  we really don’t and our interpretation is inaccurate!

How often do you find yourself reacting to what you “think” someone else is thinking, saying, or doing, only to find out later that they had something completely different in mind?

How often have you gotten mad at someone for being mad at you, ignoring you, giving you a ‘dirty look’, for something they said and it turns out you misinterpreted all of it.  You were distressed and feeling negative for something that wasn’t even true!

How often does a conflict get resolved when you find yourself saying, “Sorry, I thought you meant ‘this,’ but I now see that you really meant ‘that.’ Now I get it.”

It’s natural and humans do it all the time!

So, what can we do about it?

1. Be aware of the fact that what you are experiencing is the result of where you are coming from, and not necessarily where they are coming from.

2. Understand there are many ways of looking at something.  Don’t get locked into one viewpoint.

3. Check it out: “Are you saying this…..?”  “Did you mean….?” “Are you upset with me because….?”

4. Remember, there are many different viewpoints of the same situation.  Your viewpoint may be completely off.  Be open minded to other ways of looking at it!

5. You’re not as accurate of  a MIND READER as you think!!

What are you Dreaming about?

Focus on What You Want

  • Do you dream about leaving or divorcing the person you are with?
  • Dream instead about having a great relationship with them!
  • Do you dream of getting in your vehicle and just running away?
  • Dream instead of being happy and fulfilled right here and now!
  • Do you dream about others treating you wrong and not appreciating you?
  • Dream instead of being treated with respect and appreciation!
  •  Do you dream about looking stupid, or sounding dumb?
  • Dream instead about being seen as courageous, well spoken, and admired!

Keep your mind out of DIS-EMPOWERING DREAM  territory!  Dream about the way you want your life to be!

It may be challenging at first, but: Whatever you focus on grows!

Focus on what you don’t want and you will get more of it!

Focus on what you do want and you will help bring it into your life!

Dream of the way you want it to be!

Which Path Will You Choose?

Part of living in this world is to have problems and suffering.  It is unavoidable.

We will have disappointments, frustrations, fears, anger, and loneliness.

But, the path our thoughts take can increase or decrease our suffering.

Are you accepting or resisting what is happening in your life?

Definition:

Acceptance-Being in agreement, allowing what is

Resistance-Being in opposition, fighting against what is

Resistance is a path and acceptance is a path and you have the ability to choose which path you will walk down. The path you choose will decide the scenery you see.

Acceptance is strengthening and developing your ability to see the good even though it may not be apparent. Acceptance provides far greater peace and happiness in your life.

Resistance creates distress and negativity; it increases feelings of fear, doubt, worry, and anxiety.

It is possible for you to choose a new attitude, a new way of thinking about the situations and people you experience in your life.

All things that happen in your life work together for the good and for your growth, regardless of how they appear in your mind now. What can I learn from this? How can I grow from this? This new attitude will help eliminate your resistance.

Example: I know someone who has “strong rules” of the way things should be.  When people and situations violate these “rules” they are very upset.  People should be…..People should act like…..People shouldn’t say……People shouldn’t do……You get the picture.  Because they don’t accept that some people do act…..some people will say……that’s the way some people are……They create a great deal of suffering for themselves.  They resist the way it is.

Acceptance doesn’t mean we lay over and play dead, but we accept what is and then do what we can to make things better.  We only have control over our own thoughts and actions from this moment forward.

Acceptance leads to peace.  Resistance leads to suffering.

“Disappointment in life is inevitable, but suffering is a choice”
